Hugabrew Havanese
2010 Puppy Picnic

Our Puppy Picnics or Puppy Reunions evolved from us wanting to see what we had bred over the years and also just wanting to have a fun time with our owners and their dogs. The picnic is held at our place, usually in August, and all of our owners and their dogs are invited. It has grown to the point that our last Picnic was attended by 80 humans and around 40 canines. We have had owners attend from the Okanagan, Vancouver Island, The Sunshine Coast and from Washington State.  Our veterinarian and groomer have also attended.

We do not have any organized events except for the Group Photo but people enjoy interacting with each other and discussing and bragging about their dogs. Many people enjoy finding their dog’s litter mates for a “family” photo. The oldest dog attending and the one who has travelled the farthest get a special treat.

Dogs are left free to run in the fenced back yard and there have been very few “discussions” among them. Everyone is always amazed that so many dogs can get along so well. And what a sight when so many dogs play “run like hell”.

We provide a lunch that is BBQ’d by our friend Don and one year we even had a “Havanese Cake” (donated by Ethel Adachi and Bailey) for our 4 legged guests.

We also ask that those that wish to, bring an item to be raffled off.  Our friend Deb, then sells raffle tickets and we pick the winners at the end of the afternoon. It is truly amazing what people have donated and our very generous and wonderful owners have raised almost 1,500.00 for the Havanese Fanciers of Canada Rescue Fund.

We thoroughly enjoy the day spent with our owners and their Havanese and always look forward to the next year’s picnic.
